Hardin, MT

Image
Aug. 28th & 29th Left South Dakota for Hardin, Montana. This is just a stop over before proceeding to Yellowstone National Park.  The campground in Hardin was a little dated. Best of all, the pool was green! Obviously no pool use here! We mainly did laundry and went to the supermarket.  The town was probably 4 blocks long and 90% of the stores were closed for good or for rent.  Goodbye Hardin! I need stores! Inviting!!

Dori, Get Down Off that Rock! in Custer State Park

Image
Ok, that's Dori in spirit, not for real.  Those people climbing the rocks were from France.   Dori has a video of the kid 5-year-old kid repelling down! This trip unbelievable. Better than expected (and expectations were high).

Needles Hwy./Custer State Park

Wild Life & Bison Jam We went to Needles Highway and Custer State Park today.  It was a beautiful ride! We ran into  our biker friends again as we watched a family(2 adults,2 kids) climb one of the peaks! I couldn't believe the father sent the kids,  aged about 5 & 9 down first. The younger kid was not liking this sport as he cried half way down the peak. I guess he figured he had no choice now! It was totally nerve wracking to watch! Crazy family from France! Sorry, only room for 1 car! In Custer we saw a lot of wild life especially Bison. We got stuck in a "Bison Jam" as they call it for at least 20 minutes! They do not move!! The cars were backed up over a mile. We saw Mountain Goats too.  Love it!!

Home Sweet Camper Home!

Sometimes you gotta stay home!! We stayed at the camper today to recoup from all the traveling and sightseeing we did. We just went in the pool at the campsite which is heated by burning logs in a little shed near the pool.  I don't usually go in because it's always too cold for me but it was perfect! We spoke to a couple at the pool and they said Custer State Park and Needles Hwy. was a must. Glad we took their word for it because we went the next day and it was worth it! The only other thing we did was go into town for lunch. That turned into a catastrophe because the waiter was waiting for relief for 2 1/2 hours and was beside himself.  We really felt bad for him.  When I got my meal it wasn't what I ordered. At this point all we wanted to do was get the check and leave! LOL!

Post-Rodeo Hoedown on a Wednesday

Badlands, South Dakota

Image
BADLANDS, SD Badlands was fantastic! We loved it here!! Pictures definitely do not do it justice! That's me up there! Joe's always looking for Big Foot! Still hasn't found him.  LOL! We stopped in the town of Interior for lunch.  ( I think its the only town in the Badlands!) We met about 25 bikers in this little tavern and found out that 3 of them came from the same little town of Star Junction/Perryopolis PA where my mother-in-law was from. What a small world!! YES Population only 94!! To make the day longer, we went to the State Farm and Rodeo in Rapid City that night. We drove hone 45 minutes in the pitch black.  Ain't doing that again!! It was a 12 hour day.   SHOW ME MY BED!! Howdy!!!!

South Dakota (Aug. 23rd - 28th), Mount Rushmore

Image
Horse Thief Campground Hill City, SD On our way to the campground we stopped in Wall Drugs in Wall, SD because there are advertisement signs along the road through the whole state!!  It actually was a tourist trap but if you like shopping you would like it. (I don't like shopping!) Aug. 24th we went to Mount Rushmore.  We spent the day there at the memorial, museum and took a little hike on the trails. We were told that the place had all been renovated 2 years ago.  Hanging out with the presidents! Taken from inside a cave Don't know how they lived on so little!!  We didn't get enough presidents during the day, so we came back at night! There is a beautiful ceremony every night to honor the active and retired servicemen! They lowered the flag and we sang The National Anthem and God Bless America.  It was very touching! I keep forgetting to take pics of the campgrounds that we're staying in so this is of another site that I took on the way out of South Dakota.

Exhausted

Too tired to post tonight and I'll eventually catch up on the days I missed.   We had a very full day today and lots of walking.  But I just have to post this 1 picture of the 2 asses I was with.  I hope you can tell which one belongs to me!  LOL! Good Night!

Adams Nature Homestead & Preserve

Image
This homestead had original buildings from the 1800's which had been move here because of the ever moving Missouri River.  There was a church, schoolhouse and the house that the family lived  in. I wish this blog would let me send videos because I went down the sliding pond in the yard there and it was quite funny.  What happened to me?? I was actually scared to do it with all my new parts! We also went into Nebraska for Walmart. They are everywhere!
